Thesaurus - KMS
In conjunction with the Objectify Knowledge Management System and advanced search, the purpose of the Thesaurus Management System is to help deliver search credibility and confidence to its users.
A major problem facing most search features on any website is that they expect the searcher to
use the exact terminology that the website authors do. The Objectify Thesaurus allows definition of synonym rings/lists so that a concept can have many terms which are used to find all relevant content. (These terms can also be common misspellings)
Thesaurus Features
The Objectify Thesaurus Manager is integrated with the Objectify Knowledge Management System and allows definition of any number of synonyms for a primary concept. The Objectify search engine automatically will find all instances of all synonyms for a primary concept. It will also prompt the searcher to look at results for the synonyms using "Did you mean?" functionality.
When a content author is working in the CMS or KMS, before they submit their page to
workflow, they can run a "thesaurus check" by clicking the Thesaurus toolbar button, which highlights all words identified as belonging to an active synonym ring where a local preferred term is flagged. The author can then select the local preferred term or ignore the suggestion.
The Objectify Policies and Procedures system includes a range of advanced features such as the integrated Policies and Procedures Thesaurus which enables online policy information to be easily search-able via search result Thesaurus suggestions.
Why use a Thesaurus ?
To improve search credibility - you often assume that live site searchers are going to use EXACTLY the same terminology as you do to describe concepts.
It is likely they will use a synonym (a word with the same meaning) - and the risk is that they will be presented with "No Results Found". This is a real problem for your sites' credibility and will discourage further site use.
A thesaurus in Objectify terms, is a set of synonym lists (or "synonym rings"). The thesaurus content is integrated with the Objectify search to build search credibility and provide "Did you mean?" functionality to ensure that your web site users always recieve at least a search result suggestion.
Industry Specific Thesuarus
Industry-specific thesauri - Objecify provides a number of industry-specific thesauri so that you don't have to "re-invent the wheel". It is critical to note that there is a real methodology in maintaining thesauri content. Objectify can provide Language & Information Management Accreditation training to help ensure that you can effectively maintain your own thesauri, as well as contribute to Objectify's industry-specific thesauri.
